Projects

It's seems a long time since we were slamming MK3 Golfs into the weeds, wearing down the sidewalls to a smooth, almost polished finish and generally smashing sumps to pieces. Growing up (so to speak), having kids and house moves has all taken priority so my driveway hasn't exactly been home to anything you'd label as an enthusiasts machine. That said, as a firm stalwart of bangernomics (which has really been tricky thanks to a battered economy) I've chosen my family dailies based on other factors that I enthuse over.

I smoked around in a Gen7 Accord Touring, K24 of course, because... well, I always liked them and I LOVE wagons. This truly was an incredible car for the monies and it worked. Super comfy, auto for commuting harmony, everything worked (including the power boot) and if shifted. Yes, it had the Honda classic rust, it had a boot leak and the brakes needed overhauling plus the standard starter motor replacement. But it was great. Until the boot leak got really quite bad and then one of the windows enjoyed jiggling free from its runners, in a snow blizzard no less, which signalled the beginning of the end. So, she was sold.

Then along came the next Honda and current family hack, our 08 FR-V 2.2 diesel. Unsurprisingly, it needed a starter motor, the brakes overhauling, a battery, some injector seal work and other bits. But after almost 3 years it has been nothing short of an absolute beast. A real Swiss Army Knife of a car. 6 seats, small but big capacity, it moves along nicely, reasonably frugal and well equipped. Mega! But, after 6 years of having stuff that works it's time to get something that I really want. Something that I can actually start to enjoy driving, cleaning, improving and giving a shit about, but still on a budget.

I have adored these cars for a very, very long time. As a designer, the clean lines, the timeless styling and the functionality of it has an appeal that never fades, if anything the appreciation seems to grow. Finding a good one has always been hard but it seems that I may have lucked out. When the purchase is made it'll signal the beginning of this project page and any posts will be linked below. But for now... tick tock (no, not the annoying social platform).

Until then...
